Thanks. I didn't try the beta yet, 'cause there's some complaints of its stability on Access' website. Anyway, haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing the crash. If I can figure it out, I'll send a crash report.

How is the memory crash issue on 8.2.2 compared to 8.2.1?

Im getting an extreme amount of crashes with 8.2 and 8.2.1. on XP 32bits. We have been working 300+ hours on 2 compositions the last 3 months. Nothing overkill, about 50 tracks, counting with sends, drum racks, and grouped tracks. Both projects have reached the point were we can not get any further without getting crashes. Simple things like cutting time, adding a vst, or freezing tracks. Even though all audio files are loading from the disk and not from ram, and almost all vsts and live plugs are rendered to audio, the 8 minutes projects still uses an enormous amount or ram. (about 1.5gb) We tried, just out of curiosity to delete everything and all the sends, just keeping an empty midi track. From here on the project now used 1gb of ram. It seems to keep a lot of old data in ram cash, or something like that. Building up the project again from scratch, by adding one by one track into a new set, plugin and audio file, the project will only use 500mb of ram, as its supposed to.

I never experienced this prior to 8.2. And we have used all Live updates more or less hardcore, like 12 hours a day, in the last 4 years.

Here is the last mail from support a few days ago:
I've tested the issue your describing and can confirm that Live doesn't free up (all) memory that is already used. But this memory is not inactive or unused. So, Live actually doesn't add it's memory usage it just keeps memory that is already allocated.

I've also checked if a "out of memory" crash happens faster if a big set has been loaded before. But the crash happened almost exactly at the same time.

Furthermore, I can reproduce the freeze when cutting time in the Live set you've sent. I will pass this to our development for investigation.

We're currently investigating "out of memory" issues and will see if there is anything we can improve.

I experience this all the time. Let's say i load a drumrack that eats 40MB Ram, after erasing it Live won't release those 40 MB. They are somewhat still in use.
Some of my sets RAM consumption fluctuate between 1,3 GB and 600MB after reloading them again. Its incalcuable...i have an eye on my taskmanager all the time.

Insane things going on with this. Trilogy just give blasts of white noise now and all my return tracks have insane blasts of white noise. What the hell is going on?!

Is your Trilogy a legit copy?

Just asking....It seems pretty strange.

Yeah totally legit. Been working totally fine forever. Even before this update ABleton started acting REAL REAL strange. Right click menu pops up as a green box without being able to select anything from the Menu. I have been running ABleton for 2 years now with very little issues except for crashes here and there. 90% of my plugs are legit, the other 10% have worked with no glitches or problems whatsoever. But lately things have been getting very very VERY strange. BEFORE the update, my returns would BLAST with white noise, whether with Rverb, with ABleton's reverb. IT always seems to come from tracks that are either routed to reverbs through returns or sometimes I'll create a bus to a verb track in a group. I have usually mixed in Logic. I have been trying to mix in Live lately but the more complicated my routing gets, the more insanity ensues

I just realized, I bought DR-MS a couple weeks ago and that's when stuff has gotten strange if DR-MS is in there. ANybody else had problems with Dr-MS in Ableton?

So it has nothing to do with 8.2.2.

Sweet.

Certain sessions of mine are completely unplayable in 8.2.2, white noise as soon as I open the session! WHile older sessions worked, but blasted white noise in reverbs every once in a while and I would have to disable the verbs. But maybe my computer is just )*#&$#$ed

Not just you I get this too. I haven't played around with 8.2.2 enough to find out whether it has been cured or not.

I think it is caused by a third party plug in spiking the audio output with a very large 'signal'. This is probably very short in duration and is not normally audible unless you have a reverb connected. This spike seems to 'confuse' the Live reverbs and they cause the noise. It's very loud - total clip fest - and usually scares the heck out of me.

The spiking doesn't happen with all VSTi, just a few from my collection. I tried out the demo of the Big Rock phaser last week. Changing the presets nearly always caused the noise bursts:

Nice phaser though...

Ok, seems to happen' if I remove the channel with Virus in it. After about 30 seconds there's a short stuttering noise and Ableton quits without warning. Gonna send this to Ableton Support, but was wondering if someone else is experiencing the same.

Still on the official release (4.1.1.05) of Virus btw.
