Live 8.2.2 out now
Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
For the first time since long i have been happy with 8.2.2
Tried all the betas and some crashed more some less. Up to a point wherre i dould not save or open a session without a crash.
Upgraded to 8.2.2 and could not save anything anymore without a crash. So i deleted the prefferebce file to start setting that up from scratch incl my default session template and any recovery history stuff. (osx user)
A miracle !!!! Not a single crash anymore. Open any old session that woulid normaly crash and burn straight away and save it without a crash.
Played with it for about 10 hours strainght yesterday with lots of vst/vsti's that i would otherwise not even dare to touch. Not a single crash.
So maybe it was all these updates/betas whatever that had f'ed up my preff files or a combo of the 8.2.2. And the new preff. I don't care anymore. This is it i am not touching it anymore. Finaly can start doing some work !!
So if yu hve tons of crashes, try that as well. Takes some time to set it all up again, specialy if you have tons of controllers like apc40 and 4 ipad controllers, but it is worth it.
Just my 2 cents.
P.s. Not saying at all that all the crashes all people have can be solved this way. Am sure there are still lots of real bugs in there since the M4L integration and am sure i will face some of these soon once i play with it some more, but at least Just one other thing to try to rule out any other issues with your setup.

Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
Crashed again yesterday with my Mac and Akai MPK61. I was midi mapping while the sustain pedal was on. The computer froze I had to hard reboot.

No crashes after deleting prefs. Now over 7 hours of solid editing work, rack building, mapping. Dcam, Alchemy, Razor seem to work just fine. Don't have a much space for 3rd party stuff anyway as I'm using first gen. macbook.
Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
Seems that the random missplacement of realtime recorded midi notes is back...
can some one please check? you play something from from an external synth and record simultiously on audio and midi..than you play that back.. does the external synth plays the same thing you have recorded from it as audio when getting the midi back from live?

It's an issue ignored for ever by ableton.. check the date on this babyze2be wrote:How is the memory crash issue on 8.2.2 compared to 8.2.1?
Im getting an extreme amount of crashes with 8.2 and 8.2.1. on XP 32bits. We have been working 300+ hours on 2 compositions the last 3 months. Nothing overkill, about 50 tracks, counting with sends, drum racks, and grouped tracks. Both projects have reached the point were we can not get any further without getting crashes. Simple things like cutting time, adding a vst, or freezing tracks. Even though all audio files are loading from the disk and not from ram, and almost all vsts and live plugs are rendered to audio, the 8 minutes projects still uses an enormous amount or ram. (about 1.5gb) We tried, just out of curiosity to delete everything and all the sends, just keeping an empty midi track. From here on the project now used 1gb of ram. It seems to keep a lot of old data in ram cash, or something like that. Building up the project again from scratch, by adding one by one track into a new set, plugin and audio file, the project will only use 500mb of ram, as its supposed to.
I never experienced this prior to 8.2. And we have used all Live updates more or less hardcore, like 12 hours a day, in the last 4 years.
Here is the last mail from support a few days ago:I've tested the issue your describing and can confirm that Live doesn't free up (all) memory that is already used. But this memory is not inactive or unused. So, Live actually doesn't add it's memory usage it just keeps memory that is already allocated.
I've also checked if a "out of memory" crash happens faster if a big set has been loaded before. But the crash happened almost exactly at the same time.
Furthermore, I can reproduce the freeze when cutting time in the Live set you've sent. I will pass this to our development for investigation.
We're currently investigating "out of memory" issues and will see if there is anything we can improve.

Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
last night live was again sounding dreadfull in relation to the other daws involved.. this together with the bad midi placement..i wonder if the brown henke dither is back again.. within live the same sources sounded flat and grainy, sense of deoth in the rooms gone..
very much the symptoms of a samplerate conversion..but on a reverb plug in? there was compressor and limiter in the sum but audio level below treshold..

Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
3phase pls can you upload a short file of that? I mean 5-10 seconds are enough. I just don't have the problem. Everytime I do a proper A/B so is nothing clearly wrong in ableton.
and what do you mean with random midi placement? would like to check out that too.
I notice a noticable jitter if I do a midi loop-back out of ableton (ableton midi port out -> ableton midi port in), but I do have this with other daws too to some minor extend. routing midi internally (one track to another) in ableton is perfect.

Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
Having good luck so far, took a risk and after 2 days of testing played live with 8.2.2 last night without any issues. 2 computers running it, one mac and one win 7 PC ethernet midi sync'd. Presently surprised that neither computer asploaded

Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
For the folks having trouble with Virus Control: c'mon, VC has been buggy since day 1 under all kinds of DAWs. I was a fairly early purchases of a Virus, back when the TIOS was in revision 1.x, and I stuck with it through to version 4.x, but VC never fully stabilized in all that time. Under Logic, under Live, whatever. It worked reasonably well sometimes but was never (ever) a rock-solid experience of the kind that most high-quality software plug-ins are. I don't mean to put down the Virus, I love the sound of it, but it seems to me to be quite a stretch to pin crashes associated with VC on Live.

Thanks for the info. I've only recently got my TI2 so didn't know that. Do you use Virus through midi then or how have you "survived" all these years?luddy wrote:For the folks having trouble with Virus Control: c'mon, VC has been buggy since day 1 under all kinds of DAWs. Same issue here. I've used the latest installers provided by the NI Service Center.dj_mosquito wrote:Has anyone else noticed that Kontact doesn't show up after updating to 8.2.2? i launched 8.2.1 and it shows up there, but when i launch 8.2.2 its unavailable.
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.
Edit: I should clarify my issue is with Kontakt Player.
Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
Ugg... lost audio input from my ultralite and also lost connection to my LPK in the space of 5 minutes... not saying it's 8.2.2's fault, but *never* had this happen before...
Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
I've had some problems.
trashed the"preferences.cfg" and all has been fine since..

Re: Live 8.2.2 out now
Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes, I always used my Virus in standalone mode, sending MIDI to/from it via a MIDI interface and routing audio usually as SP/DIF into an audio interface. With that setup it was 100% reliable. The only thing I missed in that way of doing things was the patch management, but even that was no big deal for me, frankly, because there are so many RAM and ROM banks in the thing that I could easily store every patch I ever made on the unit itself and call them back up with program changes or simply dial them in by hand. I often created a multi for a song and put the various patches for the sounds I used in the song on different parts/channels in the Virus.Rationalizer wrote:Thanks for the info. Every so often I would put the virus back into VC mode just to see if the stability had improved but I never found it to be an acceptable way to work. Just too many problems for my taste. I like to get on with the music and not fiddle around with buggy sw...
