CPU Usage maxing problem
CPU Usage maxing problem
So I seem to be maxig out on some of my tracks as they get bigger.
I have a new custom built computer. Built with 1 gig of RAM. I went today and put another Gig in. It seems to be having the same problem. it didn't really do anything. I also use Reason ReWired
whats up with this??
I am running at normal sample rates ect....
HELP

cpu usage isnt related much to ram, most of the cpu drainage comes from VSTs
so adding more ram wont necessarily give you a performance boost if you're running a lot of softsynths and cpu intensive effects.
to see the huge difference between running VSTs vs without: bounce all of your tracks to audio, with effects, and run the same project as audio files. i routinely do this during final mixing
you will see your cpu meter drop like a stone. version 5 has a freeze function coming, hold off for a couple of months and this is going to get a lot easier.

there are midi tracks. these are where your VST softsynths go (if any). you play these VSTs with MIDI clips in the track.A-Plus wrote:Can you please eleaborate on this for me? these synths are playing in real time - it takes a lot of CPU power to create the sounds.
then you have audo tracks. these tracks play audio clips (wav or aiff files). these take much less cpu to run
what you want to do is record the MIDI tracks to an audio clip. you can do that by rendering the track, or recording the MIDI output into an audio track, or using a utility VST (like Tapeit) to record clips.
there are a few ways to do it. read the manual
then you run these audio clips in thier own audio track, and shut off the VST synths in the MIDI track. make sense?
