I've been fiddling around with this M4L device. I think its brilliant. Anyone else?

i do. ;-)
when I feel a big lack of talent/creativity (often ;) ), this really helps me with finding a new beat - and you can change all sounds if you want :)

I have nt had time to look at this yet. How are the preset patterns stored?

instant haus plus a couple of device animators is the shit. ableton as a generative minimal techno machine. Whow, I sit here and listen to great music played by a pattern-generator and some LFOs...

I've had some nice results with it so far but would be interested to hear peoples tips.

My tip is to midi/key map the mute slots for kick snare hat perc to build the pattern up slowly.

It could be useful to use this on a drum rack with all the sample slots filled, but mapping all the macros is a
which kind of re-highlights this thread http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=96807 (map to siblings)

Can you describe how to do this in detail?

OK, set up instanthaus and a drumrack of your liking. Then put a device lfo behind it, map it to the pattern-randomize-button on instant house, make the LFO do a square wave so tat the pattern gets randomized every 8 bars for example. No put a deviceAnimator behind it, and assign the LFOs to the macros of your drumrack. For example map it to a delay, the global decay and a reverb on the drumrack, and those parameters controled by the deviceAnimator.
Then put another deviceanimator behind that and let it control some parameters of e.g. the hihat. You get an everchanging thing going on. Depending on how the drumrack is set up and which parameters are on the macros this might be more or less interesting.

If I find some time later I will make a liveset and upload it.

here is the Liveset (selfcontained) of a little everchanging tune using only one sample, instant house, deviceLFOs and generic live efx.

Thanks for the download file. I'm sure it will help.

There is just not enough time to learn all this while trying to actually play/ record your own music.

Just want to copy in the tips from the other thread about instanthaus that has gone off topic

If you're interested in further customizing the sequences from Instant Haus, there are a few options that are worth exploring:

- print the sequences to a MIDI clip in Live. The Instant Haus demo set is setup to do this. You can then edit what you've recorded like any other MIDI clip.

- use the new API objects to randomize or modulate Instant Haus's parameters.

- lastly, if you're up to it, open the patcher and edit the sequences yourself - the parts are sequenced using the Matrix Control object in Max, and the subpatchers containing the sequences are labeled "p p_[instrument]".

Additionally, if you're interested in exploring further generative options in Live, check out some of the new sequencing tools under MIDI Effects->Max MIDI Effect->Tools. Lots of options for more generative drum programming!

and also

In addition to editing the sequences in the subpatchers in Instant Haus, as others have suggested, have you had a look at the new sequencing devices? Under MIDI Effects->Max MIDI Effect->Tools. I think Improbeat, MidiGran, MidiShuffler, PolyBeat and StepEcho are just what you're looking for.
