DIY HUI Control?

Hi everyone,
I'm currently building a custom MIDI controller based on an Arduino, and the idea is to make something that will simplify everyday production tasks in Live.

Here's the problem: I want one of the potentiometers to be mapped to arrangement zoom, i.e. turning it clockwise would zoom in on the current arrangement position. Since this is not directly MIDI mappable, what are my options for making this happen? Based on some research it seems that HUI or Mackie Control protocols could handle this, but is there any way I can work with those on a DIY project?

Software such as Bome's Midi Translator (PC) or MidiPipe (Mac OSX) would allow you to trigger a key combination with a basic midi cc or any note. The only real difficulty with that solution would be setting up the midi translator and finding the correct shortcut key combination to bind it to.
