Can anyone tell me how to have my audio or Midi tracks always start at -10db?

Open a new live set, set your Audio/Midi channels to -10db then go to Options > Preferences and in the File Folder tab click "Save current set as default". Every time you open a new live set it will load the channels at -10db and you can just duplicate the channel to make more.

Alternatively you could drag a default Utility from the Audio Effects folder, set it to -10db and then right click it's title bar and choose "Save as default preset". Then it's just a case of loading a default Utility on to any channel you want to be at -10db.

good ideas but I was looking for a little more efficient solution..I'm sill figuring out how to set default behaviors
ideally I would like to open an audio track with an utility plugin and a fabfilter Q. Just trying to streamline my workflow you know but thanks for the input. :D

I'm not sure if there is a normal way to edit the default track state but you can get 3rd party scripts (such as the one mentioned on this site) that would let you preconfigure a newly inserted track to have the -10db you wanted but I'm not sure if it would let you add external plugins like fabfilter.

This needs a wishlist post asking for this function to be incorporated in the next Live release if there isn't one there already.

I've researched doing exactly what you're trying to do, and a year later haven't really found anything more helpful than saving templates with what you want Live to look like when you open it. Changing the default state of say creating an audio track and having a plug-in already loaded up on it is more of a programming thing. Unless you know anything about hacking live, I'd say the template is as stream-lined as you're gonna get.
