Re: iPad MIDI. The Definitive Report.
When I start to really feel sorry for myself, all I do is hop over to any number of app threads in which someone using Windows is trying to not only overcome basic iDevice MIDI issues, but dealing with the typical hamfisted madness that is Windows MIDI.

Got this finally working today which is kinda neat as it turns the iPad into somewhat a dedicated synth over wifi.

Yeah, cool. I too have no problem in controlling the iMS-20 app from Ableton and the SoftStep and etc. It's the fact that Korg haven't implemented proper MIDI out and sync that still has me

An excellent question; one that I'm pondering myself.
For starters, we've no idea exactly how well the iODock is going to connect to a laptop/DAW. I've literally seen NO vids or explanations on this. There's a USB out - that supposedly will go to your MacBook, but to what end I've no idea. No idea as well that clock will be supported.
Same goes with iConnectMIDI. Haven't seen it hooked up to a DAW. Haven't seen it support clock sync.
The reason why you might have both is so that you could plug in the iODock into the iConnectMIDI unit, then be able to use the iCM as an overall MIDI hub (that supports USB and standard pin). How all of that works will be very tricky, and totally unproven. For one thing, if you don't have a DAW or laptop with CoreMIDI to properly route all that data you will have to rely on extensive MIDI routing options within the apps themselves. A handful of apps actually now have decent I/O options for channel and note/cc selection. Most do not.
This is a wait and see game. It's infuriating that both these products have been advertised ad nauseum and keep fucking winning awards (even after NAMM is over), yet neither has seen the light of day... lol.

I think you should write an email to Korg, propellerhead (for rebirth), the beatmaker guys and apple (for garageband) and tell them to all pay attention to these guys.LoopStationZebra wrote:lol.

Okay, that app? ^ ROCKS.
Selecting CCs with the slider sucks ass, but other than that it's fun as hell. The recording feature? Starts and stops when you move your finger and lift. AWESOME.
