Can anyone do this in Ableton? Simple test

Post by seedofeve » Thu Apr 07, 2011 3:00 pm

I am trying to do something that I think should be simple, but I am having trouble. Here's the simple test: Remember, use a looper to set the tempo for each song.

1. Start a song with a looper and record ON in the transport.
2. Add some more tracks for a minute or so using at least one more looper.
3. Keep recording, clear your loopers and start another song with a different tempo using a looper and repeat step 2. Stop recording and check your work in step 4.
4. Clear your loopers and play back the songs in a continuous play - each song in its own tempo including all looper parts. (that's essentially all I am trying to do)

I can do this with one song, but adding another song with a different tempo while still recording; and getting both songs to play in their own respective tempo's is the hurdle I am mangling with rather than clearing at this point.

Seed.

Couldn't you just include it as a separate scene with tempo adjustment in the sidebar?

Or use a tempo envelope in arrange?

Also found this solution:
What I do is set the punch in point (the start of the loop marker) at the point where i want the tempo change.

I then make sure it is set to record at the punch points, hit record, go a few bars back, hit play and change the bpm to the tempo I want. Then as soon as the cursor reaches the punch in point it creates your little square perfectly for you.
You could use that advice and figure out a workaround.

OK - this is cool stuff. I appreciate the insights. My only issue is that I need a lot of flexibility with the length of my songs and parts... My improvisational style and nature will not allow for fitting every song into an exact number of loops... I will see what I can do. Maybe your answers will actually work when I start getting my hands busy with it... Thanks, guys. God bless.
