No MIDI into track from drum-rack individual inst sub-output

hi, don't quite know how to name this topic ...

what i want to do is to extract single note information from a drum rack, so i choose

Midi From > Kit 808

and then in the dropdown below

Kit 808 > Kick 808 > Post FX


i see the little LED indicator flash so midi is coming in from the track and i only get the kick midi note info

but somehow the midi notes don't arrive into this track since when i enable monitoring on this track i cannot see the track level moving and note messages are not passed on to the output selected in 'MIDI To'

what am i missing ?
