groups is currently no fun :(
Re: groups is currently no fun :(
the only place groups screw me up are the APC. I'll bring down the track faders then nothing will play, then I realize I the Group's fader was in the orange box. through repetition I might someday learn. for now, it's annoying.
I'd like the ability to color a Group Track a different color so I can more easily track where the buggers are.
I love that on the APC I can hold down a track select button to collapse and expand Groups.

maybe i'm misunderstanding what you're saying here... but you can change colors on group tracks.Tone Deft wrote:I'd like the ability to color a Group Track a different color so I can more easily track where the buggers are.
do you mean on the APC 40?
Re: groups is currently no fun :(
I mean the whole column, highlight the thing just like the APC/LP boxes are highlights.
when you color a track only the track title changes, IIRC.

Re: groups is currently no fun :(
the bar on the track title changes color yes... and if you record new audio then the bar above the wav draw will be that color... but no, the entire track doesn't change... but i think it would be a nice option. turn on/turn off... option - if you have too many multi colored tracks playing at high BPM it could cause seizures or something.
Re: groups is currently no fun :(
the way groups are implemented is a nightmare and one wonders how such an implementation was able to leave the house .. not even alpha version ready..
You guys seem to have forgotten that the initial delivery dont even allowed arrange commands on grouped tracks..
this feature is defently delivered only half... second half in L9

a clear elaboration on the other half the the deliverable would surely be appreciated. this doesn't say much more than "they suck."3phase wrote:the way groups are implemented is a nightmare and one wonders how such an implementation was able to leave the house .. not even alpha version ready..

The cool thing was easier in Live 7..
Groups made it into a 3 mouseclick operation instead of a 2.
But the colors help for larger cool thing sets.

Re: groups is currently no fun :(
There was a pretty bad bug with the cool things for groups during the 8.2.2 beta stage that lasted a few months. Maybe the poster tried the cool thing with groups for the first time during that long beta? As of the final version, I'm pretty sure the cool group behavior has been pretty stable...

Glitchrock..
Ya... its stable in 8.22, imho it was easier to implement in 7...
But I'm used to it now,
so the cool thing is part of every set now.
I'm really into Rad Tricks too.

Agree with some of the later replies. Grouped tracks can be annoying on Control Surfaces like the APC.
In fact its hard enough already to read the APC matrix. Using 40-50 tracks and loads of clips on each, its like painting a landscape through a key hole. Grouping confuses a bit the whole 8 track symmetry of the APC. It could be fixed if the group track was also track 1 in the group. This can be achieved with grouping tracks the oldschool way. But this cant hide or open, like the new functions. Actually, I don't use the APC to fire clips much at all. I use the grid as drum pads for drum racks, and also as a note player for instruments. (Native Kontrol presets) Typically time spent like 80% on the device control, 10% playing notes on the grid triggers, and 10% on the fades. To make it more practical in the studio, Ive set 8 template oldschool-groups to the far left, send all tracks in the project to these, and have the APC most of the time displaying this area. This way its easy to at least get an overview. Monitor or solo sections, on the fly. Without scrolling around like crazy.

Re: groups is currently no fun :(
I hate the fact that sidechaining things outside of the groups with things inside a group does not work properly when soloing the sidechained track.
