I do think that the upgrade pricing for users who
bought version 4 isn't really fare... 119 Euros !

There's only a 50 euros difference from having ANY
former release... (that you can find for nothing on ebay...)

What do you think ??

Cheers,
b.

Look admitiedly it's out of my price range.
That said I don't think is an unreasonable upgrade price considering the list of features they've included.
There is a massive amount of feature updates in 5.0 as far as I can see and the coders do need to get paid.
Just because Live 5 is announced doesn't mean you HAVE to upgrade as an owner if you don't need the required feature set either.
You do have a choice.
Ableton aren't forcing you to update to 5.0.
I will no doubt eventually get it but in all reality I won't be able to afford it till around January of 2006 ..... cest la vie.
I would have prefered an upgrade price of $200 Euro/USD with Operator included in the bundle myself as a standard plug in (even if it meant saving up for another two months).
Still I don't feel Ableton are being unreasonable with the pricing of Live 5 at all really.
My aren't the wings of butterflies beautiful and do they not make wonderful perturbations.....

i think everybody feels like he is entitled to a discount because of this an that. but ableton can't make everybody happy.
they got to find a solution (preferably not too complicated), and most of all, they have to make money.
yes...i started with live1.5. but, new versions are necessary as i could not sleep
until having it. Live4 is getting pretty professional, and ~$100 for an upgrade
is a steal.

I've upgraded since version 2 and I think it's fair, and I thought Operator was fair enough :D

I think its fair.
To me it breaks down like this...
1) Nobody's forcing me to buy it. Live4 will still work fine if I don't buy Live5.
2) I got my $120 worth out of Live4
3) That $120 upgrade I paid for Live4 helped pay for all the great advancements in Live5. The $120 I will pay for Live5 will help pay for the development of Live6.
4) I would like to get paid for what I create. Thus, I must be willing to pay other people for the work they do.
5) Live5 looks badass!!

It would be nice if they started including an upgrade+operator price, upgrade and get $50 off Operator or something.

That said, I'd still likely not pay $100 for Operator, but that's just me.

The student (download) upgrade is 79€, and that's a price I certainly can't complain about. I spent a lot of money on Ableton Live 4, and it's the best piece of software I've ever owned - or even tried. I figure I won't be disappointed :)
