Video as controller - how?

Post by phillwee » Sun Apr 10, 2011 8:51 pm

Hello,

I would like to use video as a controller using Max for Live. To clarify, I would like to have the properties of a video (right now it is in DVD format, but I assume I can convert to another format if necessary), such as the brightness and color in different coordinates, to control assigned parameters (turning knobs and what-not) of instruments or effects in Live. Anyone know how to do something like that?

That sounds quite doable. You should check out jitter tutorial 25 which is all about tracking colour in video. By cutting and pasting parts of that with parts of the new official m4l LFOs you could accomplish what you're after without having to write that much of the code yourself.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check that out.
