so am i going in the right direction? (EQ'ing)
so am i going in the right direction? (EQ'ing)
last night i tried really digging into EQ'ing, and now i wonder if i am doing the right thing.
i read this article:
http://www.tweakheadz.com/EQ_and_the_Li ... Audio.html
and tried applying it to a 16 bar loop i threw together.
now, how well did i do? can i borrow your ears for 30 seconds (it's really only 30 seconds long)
http://soundcloud.com/askek/test
how's my mix? is it muddy or descent? am i fillin out the sound spectrum?
thanks.

Re: so am i going in the right direction? (EQ'ing)
EQ'ing takes years to master unfortunatley.
My tip would be use the fequency analyser as much as possible and learn what it is doing.
Also a simple tip is to quickly render your a tune to an audio track with all the Eqs off then one with all the EQs on. This is a dead basic fix but it helps learning about EQs and how powerful they are.
EDIT: Will listen to your tune when im home, just working on my MBP at the moment so no point listening yet.

Just to re-iterate what 8TROW8 said. A/B with your EQ on and off. Another way to do this in Live is to assign the same key to the on/off buttons of the EQ's then you can punch them all in and out (you could even do this to specific poles). If you close your eyes and hit the on/off quickly a random number of times you can then listen objectively and decide what sounds better A or B. It makes such a large difference, give it a try.

so since no one gave you a straight answer of what they thought of your mix. my amateur opinion is that it sounds pretty good and you are going in the right direction.

Using that technique would be much more productive than mine, good shout Quantize, props.Quantize wrote:Just to re-iterate what 8TROW8 said. A/B with your EQ on and off. Please don´t forget the gain compensation when comparing. (Compare at the same peak volume)
