Looking for IDM/ Glitch/Minimal Techno beat making tutorials

I am looking for good resources to learn beat making specifically geared towards these niche genres.

I specifically looking to create beats in the syle of these artists: Ulrich Schnauss, Anders Ilar, Pantha du Prince, Modeselektor, Chris Clark, Arovane, Phonem, Apparat, Moderat, Christian Kleine, Boards of Canada.

I can program and play synths and guitars just fine, but for some reason my beat making isn't up to par. No matter how many hours I devote to this, I just can't seem to be satisfied with my efforts.

If any of you kind folk has experience in these styles and would be able to offer me some pointers and/or instruction, please get in touch, either via this topic or private message.

Firstly, if you are not aware: http://www.idmforums.com/ is a great resource, try asking this question there as well, as everyone over there is working in a similar style, and there are already plenty of threads on this subject

one thing you might look into if you haven't already would be doing odd metered time sigs like 7/8, 3/4, 5/4 etc... as 4/4 is going to give you some fairly standard sounding beats, which is not what IDM is generally about

I assume you're already messing with beat repeat, but if not, look into that, or stuff like supatrigga or livecut to randomly juggle your beats up:

a lot of idm uses really short sustain or chop the tail off of sounds so they more so click than ring out.

let me know if any of this helps, not sure how much of this info you've already discovered, or exactly what you're looking for, but hopefully some of this was useful.

i'm not really convinced odd time sigs are really necessary tbh but there's no harm in giving it a whirl.

i know nothing about glitch or minimal but as far as idm goes,

as antartika said, supertrigga and livecut are very good tools.
beat repeat (to me at least) has quite an obvious sound.
i love using vectory from the reaktor library to process breakbeats. sampled ones or home made - doesn't matter.
vectory gives you complete control over the results and has wonderful morphable effects.
whatever you use i find it important to have things rendered to audio when you're done to make them easier to work with.
this also gives you the opportunity to get in there and juggle a few things around by hand.

anyway, however you achieve that, once you have your more esoteric rhythms down i find it pays to layer in a kick and snare for reinforcement.
just go through a few bars at a time dropping them straight into the arrangement view - again, it's a control thing. it can take a while but it's worth it.

of course, you don't have to do any of that - as far as idm goes there's not really any expectations of how your beats must sound. whereas in
minimal doing the above probably wouldn't really work. in fact i only use it occasionally myself..
