APC20 step sequencer
APC20 step sequencer
Hey all, relatively new to the board here. I just picked up an APC20 so I could have a smaller little box to carry around when out and about and making music. I normally keep an APC40 at home and have been using Hanz's APC64-40 script pretty frequently there. My question is has anyone been able to employ a similar script onto the 20? I noticed that there are subscripts in there for the 20, but I am presuming its for the effort to link the note mode across from the 20 to the 40. I assume it is possible, but I have little to no knowledge of scripting and every time I try to learn I can't help but feel its time lost for messing with ableton. Anyone here give it a shot yet that could help me out on which files to alter?

Re: APC20 step sequencer
Hmm never saw that site before. I've taken to importing certain code from the 64_40 into the baseline apc20 scripts. Not sure if it will work, but here's to hoping!
Re: APC20 step sequencer
whats the advantage to setting up an APC as a step sequencer? is it just a preference or a different approach ? is there a way to set up like half of the 40 as a step seq and use the other half as a normal interfae for launching clips in ableton? I have been giving this thought, guess there is only one way to know.
Re: APC20 step sequencer
There's no specific advantage to it. I think some may even consider it more of a hindrance depending on your perspective. To me, the one Hanz set up on the 40 is a huge work horse. Mostly used in the composition stage, I like the ability to plug in my buttons as I go along and watch it scan across the piece of hardware, rather than plug it in real-time on a keyboard or point and click with a mouse. My keyboard is sweet for just playing out rhythms and sorting out the sound I am shooting for, but I have made a lot of use outta the apc40 step seq.
Not sure if you've used his script before amonaco, but it will swap between step seq and clip launch pretty easily. and it will zoom in on a track or extend/shorten the track length all from the apc. Just trying to figure out which scripts I need to modify/merge and how exactly to accomplish it. Though I truly haven't a clue what I am doing with scripting. Thats why I posted here...do see if anyone else had ported the step seq over yet.

Re: APC20 step sequencer
After I bit the bullet and upgraded to suite for the max deal, I found a step sequencer that ableton offers for the apc40 or 20 as a max effect that you place on the instrument. Its not as robust as Hanz's since its geared more for a drum kit. Where Hanz's script can scroll up and down a keyboard, this selecte specific notes using the turn nob. I will keep an eye out though if he releases one for apc20 though since IMO its way better than the max device.
Re: APC20 step sequencer
what ableton live instrument are you using?
do the buttons on your APC light up in this mode?
do the buttons on your APC light up in this mode?
Re: APC20 step sequencer
Lights light up with both seqs. Works with any live inst or vsti.
