Need suggestions

Post by ltlwezboi » Thu Apr 28, 2011 7:25 pm

So i bought ableton live from amazon and i opened it, not realizing that the stuff i wanted was in ableton suite, and not offered in ableton live. I called the seller from amazon and turns out i can't return it, exchange, or anything of the sort. So i'm stuck with ableton live with no instruments and my purpose of ableton was to produce music.

Does anyone have suggestions? should i just NI's Komplete instead or are there specific instruments in ableton that i can buy... and tbh i don't even know what all the instruments do so i'm kind of at a loss right now =/

any discussion is appreciated

I think pretty much everyone on this forum would agree,

1st Check out all the free vsti from the 'KVR' software database. (KVRaudio is a music software forum and website dedicated to computer music production)

2nd Get to know 3rd party vsti by runing the demo's many are feature limited or in the case of NI unlimited for 30 mins so you can use them to get a feel for what you want in your tracks. and after a time start to build your Free and Comercial plugin folder

3rd, I started out with 'EMU Proteus X' ROM Player which you can now get for free 'EMU Proteus VX' full of very useable instruments and a pro sound, you have to subscribe to a newsletter but it's worth it. I can send you the link later but google Proteus VX and you'll get to it eventually.

4th Buy 2nd hand licence transfer where possible, there is a page on this forum for 'Sale and Wanted' you can get bargins and in the case of Ableton, some folks sell there instruments at low prices.

5th Ebay.

6th and most important, get to know Ableton without all the instruments, and you will find amazing things happen when your hands are tied. Granular synth or granular wavetable type synthesis is possible with Simpler so have a go.

Beats with 'Impulse'

Ableton is the best place to start, and is a pro DAW that you'll never get board of.
