I only have a mono signal in my stereo pair when I record?
I only have a mono signal in my stereo pair when I record?
I'm recording my guitar in channel 1 and I've assigned my input config to 1 mono & 2 mono and 1/2 stereo. The signal however only is recorded into one side of the stereo pair and I also hear it in one ear more than the other ear. It sounds almost stereo but not quite and when I record I see that it isn't. I followed the instructions is it possibly a problem with the audio interface? I'm using a fast track ultra and its a complete piece of crap, so I wouldn't be surprised. Waiting for the Komplete Audio 6 to arrive.
Re: I only have a mono signal in my stereo pair when I record?
try setting your input configuration to only "1/2 stereo".............it also looks like that ultra comes with some weird software....where you can mix and pan the signals....
i have the fast track pro, i used to have the same problem if i recorded my guitar in channel 1 sound would only be on the left side 2 would be on the right.....the fast track pro has a stereo/mono input monitoring button though....which if set to mono channel one goes to the left ear and channel two goes to the right....but if set to stereo you hear the signal in both ears
but it looks like the ultra's monitoring and mixing controls are in the fast track ultra software?? so maybe channel 1 by default is panned all the way to the left? maybe you have to go into the software and mess around with the settings?
if the software is the only way you can change the way its mixed, you are right that thing is a piece of crap!!!! you should throw it at something brick when you get your new interface.
other than that......i bet if you record into channel 2 you will hear it more in the other ear...maybe overdub?

Your're recording a mono signal. Full stop.rickdorr wrote:I'm recording my guitar in channel 1
This preference setting only tells Live which track inputs are available in the i/o section of the channels.I've assigned my input config to 1 mono & 2 mono and 1/2 stereo.
There you chose "Ext. in" and channel "1". That's all there is, and now you have a mono recording of your mono signal (watch the waveform).
Read chapter 13 "Routing and I/O" of the Live 8 manual.
And while you're at it, sneak a peek into your interface's manual as well.
Same to you eddiex.
That's a MONITORING button, has nothing to do with what the DAW recieves.the fast track pro has a stereo/mono input monitoring button though....which if set to mono channel one goes to the left ear and channel two goes to the right....but if set to stereo you hear the signal in both ears
If you chose 1/2 as a stereo pair, 1 is always the left channel, 2 always the right. No panning involved.but it looks like the ultra's monitoring and mixing controls are in the fast track ultra software?? so maybe channel 1 by default is panned all the way to the left?
Chose one of them as your track input and pan your MONO signal wherever you like.
Re: I only have a mono signal in my stereo pair when I record?
haha i feel all dumb.....although in my defense i did say that input monitoring button made you "hear" the signal in both ears....not that it "records in stereo"..... and..... the fast track ultra does come with its own software in which you can control the panning of your inputs....as far as the manual...yeah i did get that whole balanced and unbalanced input thing messed up....my bad rickdorr....
i spaced out
its late/early here in oregon....i haven't slept in a while....oh and the robitussin isn't helping clarity either
yay!
again////sorry rickdorr
