REALLY alternative use for Live

I'm about to have a training/kickoff session with a client (we test computer software) and I'm going to use Live to record meeting notes using my laptop's internal mic.

I figure I can record a few long clips, slice them up later into topic, and keep track of stuff better than attempting to keep written notes.

My problem is I'm not sure how much HD space may be used for a long meeting, and how long can clips be?

Anyway, I've got 10 minutes for you guys to answer, please let me know what you think.

well, I think your harddisk is the limit for the length of a clip. Assuming you're recording at 44.1 Khz mono, one minute of audio takes about 5 Megabyte, an hour 300 Megabyte and a full day 7,5 Gigabyte, etc.

The limit is the maximum file size of 2 GByte.

if you record in mono with 44.1 kHz this is about 6 hours.
afterwards you should make a short coffee break anyway.

Not that I think I will ever need audio files that big, but is that limit because of FAT32? If so, could one use bigger files when using NTFS?

I thought it was an apple limitation from OS9.. and all those nifty apps like AVID would show you multiple files as one file or something like that... god i need to read my useless crap more thoroughly.

speaking strictly re: the file system, yes you are right, theoretically larger both for FAT32(4GB, see chart) and gigantic for NTFS. The last researcher that tried died of boredom before they could finish listening to 2TB of business conversation, though.

(edit) and of course your app needs to be able to manipulate files that large.

I use Live to DM dungeons and dragons with my Nerd Herd friends. I ripped all the ambient audio from Neverwinter Nights and trigger clips when my PCs enter rooms, and I can trigger music clips when battles start.

OK, I never did record the guy because he talked nice and slow and was a pretty quiet guy really. Oh well, it sounded like it would work well. I need a way to pipe phone conversations into Live. That would be cool.

My built-in Powerbook card only does 44.1.

Me too, jesus. Live leaves my fur soft, lustrous, and oh so caressable, from headfloof to tail-tip. *shows off* Check out these back and tail stripes, folks -- that is what I call bright white. If it works for me, just imagine what it will do for human hair! (I assume most of you are humans.)
