monitoring setup...help?

Post by guntop » Mon May 02, 2011 6:00 am

So i got some krk vxt 8s in a room thats about 11 by 14. ive been wondering what's the best size triangle?
I was doing close field, but i noticed if i scooted back i got better bass response and i've actually moved back quite a bit. If i have the room, is it cool to scoot back or should i stay close in not to get too many relections? is the bass response due to the room or just the physical length of the bass frequencies?

as always, thanx a bunch, really appreciate it...

Ideally, the triangle should be equilateral. The better bass response might be a peak from you room. Try mixing from this area and play back on another system or in your car, even headphones. If the bass is lacking, then it is a peak. Try reading up on some room acoustics and take care of the corners with some bass traps and and some diffusors to get rid of reflections.

actually i double check my work with headphones and my car system. I rarely have any unexpected drop outs or boosts. I am in an equilateral triangle, and i have done some research in that i know to post the monitors long ways with the room, and not have them exactly the same height as my ears, etc. but i haven't found any specifics on the size of the triangle. what's usually done? or is there really no true answer as its completely situational?
