What got you started producing music?

Moved back home from Seattle to get clean and about 6 months later my love for music started to come back. I really wanted to make music but didn't have anybody to play with, so I thought, now is the time to get into "computer music" (which had always scared me as too complicated to learn before). I think I actually Googled "sequencer" and found Ableton, no joke. My dad split it with me for Christmas, I'll always remember that. Now clean and sober and bored out of my mind, I found I could actually concentrate for the 1st time and had a bit of every paycheck left over for gear (gear lust ended that). I just threw myself into it, as if I was a teenager again. Music really got me through.
Hope that's not too much info.
ableton saved (or is saving) me from addiction issues as well. luckily i have shitty workflow so it takes up alot of my time and keeps me away from some pretty bad habits.

In 97 I heard Prodigy's Voodoo People and really liked it, I figured this type of music must have had some connection with computers and I was good with computers, it seemed natural to try to learn this.
I discovered trackers like Fast Tracker II and from there there was no coming back.

Seeing a demo on the Amiga 500 which used the track 'Pump Up The Volume' from MARRS. I was amazed at how good it sounded and coming from a very affordable home computer. The Amiga 500 introduced me to tracker software, specifically OctaMED which in turn led me to Ableton Live.

Does the addiction saving come as standard with Suite or is it an M4L thing?
Re: What got you started producing music?
The rehab live pack was free for new customers in April - and 349€ to Live 8 owners. The Leveller wrote:Does the addiction saving come as standard with Suite or is it an M4L thing?

No rehab here. It's called harm reduction and replacement therapy. Music just gave me something fun & constructive to do. That would be one helluva livepack though

I chose poorly? maybe a genetic defect or personality flaw..
When I was 12 I was faced with a choice...electric guitar or component stereo for my birthday. I looked ahead and thought to myself I wanted a life where I put together decent bands and write decent music, occasionally great and i wanted to spend hours, practicing, lugging heavy gear, staying up all night driving and finish up with huge amounts of disappointment and little reward, tired, stinking like beer and cigarettes with a bad case of swamp ass......not to mention the fun of surrounding myself with psychotic, drug addict drunks, drag queens and thugs.
Later I saw myself strapped to a mixing board and computer helping countless other failures record their crappy songs...and then later in life having emotional meltdowns and coming out gay and trans and writing dance music that no one dances too.
At least I haven't worked at a music store...yet...
Yes looking ahead at age 12 I chose the electric guitar over the stereo...
Does this help?

When I was 18 (20 now), I rolled ecstasy for the first time at a concert. I began rolling right as Deadmau5 came on and wow was it a magical experience. Ever since that night.. It changed my life completely. Since that concert, I try to learn something new everyday in the production field and absolutely love it
