While I'm not a DJ as a producer I have gear (APC40/20, KP3, etc) which enables me to do DJ sets. My computer can handle my production load fine but when I have had troubles during the few DJ sets I've done in the past. My tempo will drift once the set has been running and adding new songs to the set list sometimes is smooth and other times is disastrous. A new computer is the next big thing on my list because I know mine is old and slow, but that's down the road.
Now the real question: My girlfriend has a much newer computer with Ableton. So i've been thinking that to combat these problems I would just use my girlfriends better computer for a DJ set at a friend's (and my) birthday party coming up in a couple of weeks. I want to do all my prep work in my studio and then just transfer the live set and song library to her computer. To do this will I need to make sure the library is in the same place on each computer (i assume it will need to be)? For example my Ableton library is on my D: drive, but her computer doesn't have a D: drive, just a C:. Should I make this set with a new folder that I can copy onto her C: drive? Or would I just be better off running the songs from a library on my external hard drive?
Sorry for the long question. I finished and realized I provided way too much information.
Switching computers for a set question.

Create a new project folder and save a new live set in there, create a clips folder in there and then drag all of your clips there. Do the same with presets and effect settings . You should find that you can then just copy this project folder over to the other PC and all of your fx / clips / presets will be intact. Much easier than trying to deal with the Live library directly imo

Re: Switching computers for a set question.
Should I ensure that when I create this new folder that it is in a destination that I can duplicate on the other computer, such as just a generic C:/DJset folder. My worry is that if I use the default location, where live would create a new project, that if I can't put it in the exact same directory that the routing will all be bad. I would check the set on the other computer obviously but would prefer not to have to spend a lot of time fixing things if my whole set's routings are bad.

If you're not using your Library folder you should be able to drop it anywhere. I'd try creating a folder with a few presets, clips and fx settings and then move it to your other PC to make sure this actually works for you before spending a lot of time on it
