true.
but to the original post when i feel stuck i'll just fire up the daw and play the keyboard.
something's bound to come out that works even if it's not a project for release. either way
it gets me out of a stale mindset.

Ha! Point taken, maybe I'm just expecting too much out of myself.
And I have really bad G.A.S. so I might just going on a little shopping spree this weekend and pick up some new toys

give equipment/plugins a second chance that you used long ago and kind of gotten over it.
try making dance music in 6/8 instead of 4/4.
use only samples from your kitchen
make only one bar groove loops for a week,
make a track a day that sounds like bavarian folk music
do not use reverb or delays at all
use the shitiest laptop speaker you can find and produce a track that sounds awesome with that. do never ever listen to it with other speakers.
make a track exclusively by editing a single track of audio. no fx, just edits
write a book about internet safety, quantum physics and the week force. come back to music three years later.
don't read or post or reply at the ableton forum.

Itt was fun enough when you were allowed to use a v-synth to mangle it - but no mangling!

That sounds like a good idea. I might try it with some shitty computer speakers.

I push myself by taking stuff out live when it's bran new. Makes me really work tools available to me for transitions and arrangement. This also gives me a great idea of how people are feeling about it.

Play some lap steel
If that doesn't work, put some reverb or delay on it.
Problem solved. It is now 2 weeks later.

I just started a series of 'quicksilver compositions' : what can I do within a 1 hour timeframe, with no presets, and just one instrument as sound source ? The two first are here :

and

I also like to use oblique strategies when I hit a wall :
