KRK ERGO

Hey there

i'm buying some KRK Rokit 6 Speakers....and i also need to get an audio interface in order to get these speakers running...the audio interface will also help me record audio (say, a guitar or microphone) with a far better latency than the built-in audio interface of the macbook pro.

my question is, does the KRK ERGO ( http://www.krksys.com/krk-ergo.html ) function as a normal audio interface? could i record external audio as in a normal audio interface? i dont see any inputs but a simple L R on the back...

yes it can although the drivers are very finicky.. i tested once just to see how it would sound but i couldn't even get it going.. that was on osx. even the ERGO correction software would not work at times cuz it would have trouble calibrating the room. IMHO don't buy that box for your interface. KRK is a speaker/monitor company... buy it for what it's meant to do which is correct some of the low end response in your room and use another dedicated audio interface..

Anybody tried getting the frequency response of their room (from the listening position) using free software and then fixing the problems with a regular EQ (a good parametric one like the Pro-Q)? You could set it up as a preset that you always use in that room.

any advice for a good (and not very pricy) audio interface? It should be firewire, have an output for both my KRK rokits 6 and audio input for recording

i've tried this before and it didn't help. i have not tried it since i have had access to acoustical measuring tools (work at acoustical consulting firm) but have wanted to- basically shoot white noise through the system and get a 30-octave band reading and try to adjust EQs until its flatter. i would suggest if you could do this right (with a meter, white noise, etc.) that having that "room EQ" on hand to throw in the monitor path at any time would be the way to go, but i don't think i would have it always on. i would set it up at an A/B type of thing, like switching monitor for reference.

the difference between this "ghetto room correction system" and ones like the Ergo (and IK's Arc software, JBL's RMC) is that they use a sweeping tone as opposed to white noise. i just looked at the ARC and its gone down in price a lot since it was introduced- that's the one i would go with (although it is a plug in and therefore will only be useful when all audio sources are coming from your DAW)

I am also under Mac OS X and it has always worked like a charm (I calibrated it maybe 3 times)

Keep in mind that you can use the KRK Ergo as an audio interface (Firewire)
