Hi All

I recently recorded my 8-piece soul band, Tremain, in Ableton 8.

That's good. You guys should be one of Ableton's featured artists. I like it when someone outside of all of the different forms of electronic music uses Live. The sound of your group really reminds me of The Brand New Heavies. I really like it. Good work.

Love the sound and the songs! And there is definitely a BNH vibe there :-) (I'm a big BNH fan too!)

One thing I noticed though is that the bass is a little hidden on "I Will Never" & "Static" in comparison to the other tracks. Did mixing the bass present any issues for you? I'm not stating that as a negative because there's always that artistic choice to do things a given way. But I'm curious from an album point of view, and not on a per song basis, whether the bass feels pretty consistent across the songs to you?

Hi,

Cheers for your compliments, glad you're digging the tunes so much.

I used a different compressor for Loving You and Leaving This City and saturated the bass line in the choruses of Loving You to give rough it up a bit. I just did what I felt the song needed.

I did the mastering on it too, if we had forked out and got it properly mastered by the people we would want to master it, they'd sort that all out for sure. However, that's costly and hopefully this'll get us the attention and investment we're after :)

You can check us out at www.facebook.com/tremainmusic. If you ever feel like catching us live then we'll be keeping the site updated for gigs etc.

Thanks again
Andy

Cheers Anthony, glad you like.

Just checked out your mixes, really great. Errol Reid was at a gig we played a couple of years back, really cool guy.

All the best,
Andy

Cool and HOT all at the same time!!!
Crisp, clear and tight (at least to my rather untrained ears).
May I ask you how you mastered? Clean stereo render from Live to ??? Or is this all 'Live'? Gear?? (Nosey aren't I).
Any chance of gigs is Australia? I'll be there in a heartbeat.

Mastered in Live too. Bounced all mixed tracks down to a stereo file, then did some subtle eq'ing, subtle multiband compressing and limiting. Sonnox plugins are great for mastering. One thing I find really great is the Oxford Inflator. Amazing bit of a kit. It really brings things to life and brings the perceived loudness of tracks up without squashing dynamics.

Australia would be fun! One day we hope :)

Cheers

Why doesn´t this getting bashed, because it is in the "wrong section"? Normally link to your music, right? Others are shown the red card right away before they were given a good listen.
It is something different for sure, but it doesn´t seem to be fair to other guys.
Granted, the promotion for a good product is ok in every section, but I just wanted to remind all of us that excluding everything right off the bat just because it is labeled house or dubstep is not fair.
Maybe we miss a great album or track.

But music business is not fair. Btw, I like the craftsmenship in the songs. That´s the basis of good mixing. Good chord choices and arrangements.
Reminds me of late 4hero stuff, but more disco than club :)

Probably because it's fresh, and good, and not dubstep.
