noobie acappella question
noobie acappella question
Ive started warping acappellas for use in Live and most song vocals I have, seem to start just before the first beat.
for example if the lines goes " i wanna get with you all night long" ( ive made this example up!!!)
the first beat comes in on "get".
how do I configure the sample so i can trigger it, when the other samples (drums) are at 9 oclock and the smaple starts with enough time so the twelve oclock is on "get".
currently it starts on "i" and of course the rhythm is all wrong...
its pretty annoying as i want to use live for re-editing songs for Djing / playing live.
I figure I could add some silence to the start of the track and trigger it a bar early but that isnt a very intuative system as everything would get triggered on the 3rd, 7th or 25th bar.
can someone shed some light on this???\
cheers in advance.

ok, im not 100% sure if this applies to what you're trying to do but:
Press the warp button on your acapella clip.
Move the green "1" marker to the word which you want to correspond to the first beat, in this case, "get".
Now set the start of your loop marker to a negative figure in bars. eg in this case if "i wanna" starts a bar before the beat is due in, put -1 in the start box under the loop button.
This ensures that the "get" is always in time and i find it really useful for warp marking if ive got a song where there are no drums for a few bars at the beginning. What this does is makes "get" your downbeat.

You really need to trigger it a bar early. Since "I wanna" actually is playing on the previous bar there is no way around that.
You might also have to add some silence in front of "I" with a wave editor if the sample starts exactly on "I". You don't want to warp "I wanna" over the whole previous bar, but rather just on the last 1/4th or so. You don't need a lot of silence, just so you can squeeze in the warp markers for the rest 3/4th of the bar.
BTW, the last thing is actually one of my gripes with Live. Why can't it extend virtual silence in front and after a sample so I easily fiddle with the start and ending warp markers? Is there any way around that?[/i]

Im hearing you on that...
I often cut up my loops on an audio editor and trim them..
then in ableton it turnsout theres a bit missing from the end and I have to go back and add silence.
surely there could be a 2 sec bookend that you could add.
cheers for all your help.
Danny.

This worked for me:
Set the pella to warp and LOOP
Set the start at the end of the pella. Generally, they fade oput and have a bit of extra time at the end. IF not, use the clip automation to make some with a cut using volume
The length should be set up to trigger at the downbeat on the bar before.
Clear?

15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.
actually, no ... can you use an example?:kabuki wrote: Clear?
- 4 bar segments
- need the vocal to start at .. 3.1.1 ... the continue past 4.1.1

I get you..
have it start at the end ( which is silence) then go through the silence for 3ish bars then it will loop back the the beginning.
1.1. silence at end
1.2 silence at end
1.3 silence at end
then loop to beginning
1.4. opening vox.
2.0 first beat.
still have to trigger a bar early though...natch.
