removing cracks from guitar recordings

Post by bambamfox » Mon May 16, 2011 4:13 pm

hi there,

well I'm trying to get into ableton for more than 1 year now, and i still dont know how to manipulate audio in the right way.

i just have really small minor cracks and noises on my acoustic guitar recording - like the string touching the fret etc.. you know that if you play the guitar.
so how do you solve that? i figured out that distorded section and tried to play a little with the volume in that part, or i could put some effect on that part - but there must be some better ways - in cubase i think you can "draw" the audiosignal to get rid of some cracks ...

please help me - i never found a good solution for this on any forum or youtube tutorial :/

Live isn't really the best tool for cleaning up audio, you'd probably be better served by some sort of dedicated wav editor (depending on your budget, you might even want to consider some of the more sophisticated dedicated audio cleaning tools out there).

If you do insist on trying it within Live, I'd unfold the wav form, zoom waaaaay in and cut out the offending bit. If it's only a very small part, any general reverb on the channel would probably mask it. Alternatively, just copy and paste a section from earlier/later where you play the same thing without the mistake.

And if the error is long or obvious enough that these methods don't work, you might want to consider doing another take :P

Soundcloud (solo stuff) | One Gear Go (my band)
