Touch sensitive knobs and faders, really important question!

Post by xbuster17 » Fri May 20, 2011 5:59 pm

hello. first topic here. i have a really determining question concerning "touch sensitive" knobs and faders with comes with the new Novation products such as Norcturn or the SL series.
if anyone has any of this product you can help me a lot.
i know that by touching the knob or fader you can see the value of what it's controlling without changing the parameter, this doesn't fascinate me much.
ok much introduction there...real question is: what midi message does these touch sensitive thing send? is it the same CC as the knob or is it a different (assignable) one? can it be assigned via automap or something for them to be different values (the touch and the actual fader/knob)?
i've been experimenting with touchOSC where there's an option of sending "z messages", wich send a different cc for the tap and the knob values, so, i can touch it to launch a clip then i would change a parameter by moving the knob, and then, the clip stops playing when i release the knob. what this controller lacks is the phisical feel to it (it's a touch screen). i want to make something like this with a novation nocturn. if someone has one of these controllers it would really help if you could try this for me. something like turning on an effect with the touch and then moving another parameter with the knob value. i would greatly appreciate the support. thanks!
