Live 8 hiccups

I'm getting a sudden trend of poor performance with Live 8. It randomly hiccups and I'm only using 3% of the cpu.

I have about 5gigs of free hd space on the macbook i'm using. I've cleaned the mac in terms of clearing its cache and running scripts to manage the system.

Any suggestions? My system specs are in my signature.

I think I just noticed something. It seems to be related to reading directly off my internal HD. I know this isn't ideal but will reading the audio through a USB drive dramatically improve performance?
