I had the Alesis Mk2 setup, but need a replacement.
My workspace is quite limited, so big monitors are overkill.
But are those little Genelec's capable of doing big sound? Been trying to demo them, but no luck so far.
I heard the 6010s with the sub and was blown away by the sound from them. Great package.
I just checked back on some older conversations and reviews and I think the 8020B might get me a more neutral sound. The price isn't that far from the 6010A.

Cheers,

- Bjorn
Cute and neat, 6010 can sound fine if set properly but they are more of multimedia speakers and not studio monitors, if you can go for 8020 - much better investment, it is simply another league.

@Tweaking Knobs - don't forget here in Berlin you can go into JustMusic with a few CDs and listen to their wall of monitors - they had a pretty good selection last time I was there and left me in peace for half an hour to switch between half a dozen pairs. Of course the set-up isn't perfect there, but it's a reasonably sound proofed room and instantly hear the difference between, for example, Adam, Dynaudio and Genelec at your price point.

if price is a concern look no further than a used pair of dynaudio BM5/6 or genelecs 8030/8040.

audtioned a shitload of speakers and had the 8040 for 2 years and bm6 now, and altough with a different character, i must say both are excellent products.

I have genelec 8030a's for the studio and 6030's for travelling with if i, producing away from the studio
I also had Adam a7 which were better than my KRk,s by a long shot but both of them fall short compaired to the genelcs in my opinion. i would have to in my opinion spend double what i paid for the 8030a's to find a real improvement on them. The 6030 are fantastic and are the exact same speaker as the 8030's but with a smaller driver.
I would go for a set of 2nd hand genelcs from ebay. they are very very robust just check with the seller that they are in good condition and if you receive them and they are not you can negotiate ( cases are metal so only tweeters or driver could only ever be damaged0 a partial refund or return.
Adams made of chipboard Krk made of chipboard as well, Genelecs cast metal enclosure.

best
J :)
