latency issues

Post by robyale » Thu May 26, 2011 7:01 pm

Hi,

First of all, my setup:

MOTU 2408 mkIII with a PCI 424 card. Only channels 1-2 are enabled on input and output.
Current Dual processor machine with 2 quad-core Xeons.
12GB RAM
Win7 64bit OS

The problem:

In a fresh empty Live set, with my latency set to 128, I get a respectable responsiveness. I chose 128 because I wanted to be free to add FX and tracks without worrying about overloading too soon.

In the project I'm working on, I have the following:

A long stereo audio track consisting of accoustic guitar and voice, warped all the way through on the complex-pro algorithm.
An instance of Kontakt with the stock grand piano patch.
An instance of Zebra playing a synth pad.
An instance of Kore Player with a guitar patch.
An instance of Trillian providing the bass.
Send A has an instance of Waves RVerb Stereo
An instance of Guitar Rig on the Kore Player channel
An instance of Waves H-Comp Stereo on the bass channel
The output has an instance of L3 Maximizer

All tracks except for the one with the kontakt piano are frozen.

I've even tried setting the buffer to 64 bit, but the delay is still unplayable.

Any idea what gives? I'm starting to think that Live isn't quite the multitracking tool I thought it was. I was hoping to avoid having to rewire to my 32bit Cubase host, as that's its own can of worms.

Thanks,

Rob

Have you gone to preferences/Audio and lowered the value of the driver error compensation?

This is an update to my post. Turns out the delay was caused by Waves L3 Maximizer across the two-mix bus.
