i didn't have a problem, none of my presets got jacked...as long as they are saved in your library, you should be good..i keep all my projects on an external hard drive so i didn't lose any of those...as far as my settings, i didn't really have too much set up....if its preferences that takes like 5 minutes to fix....if its like project template type stuff, i think that is pretty easy too. if it gets lost, just open up your last project and "save current set as default" and things will be back to normal.
so i don't know...i don't want to be the dude that told you it would be ok and it wasn't, but my upgrade was seamless.....
i would definitely back up before you upgrade though, just in case.
edit> i don't have any vst's or any plug ins or anything like that...so i can't vouch for that.

I'm in the same boat. I'm new to ableton live. I bought the box set of ableton live suite 8 version 8.2.1 and I downloaded 8.2.2 (mac os x). I followed the instructions and installed live in my hard disk in my applications folder. Now i have both 8.2.1 and 8.2.2 folders in there. Do I throw 8.2.1 folder in the trash? 8.2.1 app (1.87 GB) is larger than 8.2.2 (437 MB). I just want to make sure since I didn't read anything about deleting previous live versions in the update instructions.

keep your entire live library incl. sets, presets saved and any other samples on a separate hdd or partition, then you can delete the old versions of live and still have all your stuff. i have it all on an external usb hdd incl live packs and all that. When you install the new version, just point live to the library folder and all should be good. At least thats what i have been doing for years now without any issues, and if shit hits the fan, you still have your content, when it comes time to reformat your system hdd.
