External Instrument?

Hi

Newbie to Ableton; and apparently one of the few people left in the universe that actually wants to use a hardware midi sound module! I'm struggling to figure out how to connect my module (Emu Proteus 2000, to the extent anyone cares) to Ableton.

I did find information in the Ableton manual about the 'external intstrument' which would appear to do what I need. However, I cannot find the 'external instrument' in the library of instruments.

I am running the full Live 8 trial (but not the 'suite').

Does anyone have any ideas where I can find it?

Thanks for the reply - yes, that's where I thought it would be too.... but it wasn't.

However: I finally figured it out. I had started out with a 'lite' trial - lite does not contain the external instrument, which I did work out from the manual. It turns out, though, that even if you download and install the 'full' version over the top, the license key and authorisation for 'lite' is still active (lurking in ~/Library/Application Support... - I'm on a Mac), and it would seem that this will continue to lock out non-lite features, including the external instrument.

Remove the auth file, restart, and there's the external instrument

My only comment is you dont have to use external instruments for ext. hardware.

you are not alone. most professionals use hardware by choice. in fact the no hit to cpu makes a better set up.
one thing i would recommend is record in as high a frequency and make the sample rate as high as possible. you will
immediately notice the difference in mid frequencies between 44khz and 48khz. its much warmer.
use the ableton compressors too at the input channels.
