I've had the HR 824 MkIs nearly since they 1st came out & I love them. Always did want a pair of Genelecs (1032s?) but I couldn't afford them.
Never had the NS10s. They were in almost every studio for so long they were a benchmark. You own them so you know their idiosyncrasies.
I think the monitor that is right for you depends a lot on the styles you work in most.
Of course you'll want something that allows you to get your mixes to sound as close as you intended on as many different systems as possible.
That's the accuracy part. Add that to how well you know the sound of your system & it's characteristics & you should consistently get good results.
I feel that way about my Mackies. I'm able to get results that translate well on many, many systems.

....it's no fun to produce on ns10....
But they're still THE TOOL to get your mix straight forward....

Keep them for sure...

I hate the mackies because they have this low end humming ALL THE TIME...even if there is no low end at all...

You want genelecs....don't shoot me, if i tell you...go and get the big behringer truth monitors...pretty much a cheap ripp off from the good old genelec....
What nobody expect them to do...they're pretty linear and pretty pretty loud....a really good deal for having fun while producing...
You can even mix on them....and when it comes to serious questions, turn the volume down and have a serious look on the material through your wellknown ns10....

Thats a pro choice....

I went from NS-10's to HR824's about 8 years ago. Some observations

My HR's never have the low end humming the poster above describes

HR's are much more comfortable and appealing monitors to use, like you would expect.

The LF cut off on NS10 is around 80hrz (or feels that way) the Mackies go down to 50 hrz, huge huge difference.

My HR824's are way too big for my studio, this causes problems. In my case most of my mixes come out with a shy mid range (of course I know that now and I can compensate.

I love the bass on my HR's so much I have to remind myself to back it off on final mixdown or I come out with something boomy and distant (this feeds into the point I made above).

Having heard Behringer Truths in action, Reeloys plan is actually a pretty good idea. Work your stuff together on the Truths and then get your mix acceptable on the NS-10's. Maybe spend e150-e200 on some Sennheiser open backed head phones to check your low end apart from the studio room sound.

Yeah.. i think the bass freqs are not telling the truth on my NS10 , all the times i mix kicks and bass i have to put my hands into my mixing desk to "feel" what bass freq resonates better.. hehe.. funny, but it works for me that's the reason im thinking moving to hr824.. ihave NS10 for 12 years now, but i have also tried a couple of times the HR824's , and they seem way more precise.. think im gonna go for it;)

Ns10's from what a couple of engineers tell arent worth crap unless you have a decent amp driving them. My former instructor who has a couple of grammy's uses them with amps costing 2 grand. I guess he has that luxury. Mind that he also uses barefoots and westlakes also.

Well the "a100a" is the amp that YAMAHA made for the ns10s, anyway in a couple of days i get the hr824, i will post of course my opininon here.. will see..

NS10's aren't worth crap period. They're crappy speakers whose only claim to fame is that they will help tell you what your mix will sound like on the hundreds of other crappy speakers out there.

Personally speaking of course, I always hated mixing with NS10s. I understand the "neutral" (sales) pitch but if you can't actually enjoy the sound coming out of the speakers then why bother?

I'd say if your track sounds crap on NS10, your mix is crap. That's why so many people still use them. They are a reference...
