Any idea why this is happening?

So recently Live crashed on me and now when I try to set up my midi prefs, no device names are recognized. Everything in the input/output dropdown menus is "USB Midi Device". Anybody know how this can happen/how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Done both, no luck!

I've heard of people trashing their preference files when in trouble. Never needed to do that. Maybe you could search for info about this.

Preference files? Where exactly could I find these? Nothing else seems to be working right now so I might give that a shot...

Yes delete the pref file and it should be ok.

on windows it's somewhere like this

C:\Documents and Settings\YourMainUserName\Application Data\Ableton\Live 8.2.2\Preferences\Preferences.cfg

Delete this one and only

Unfortunately, I deleted my preferences file, and the problem hasn't gone away. On top of that, Live stopped cooperating when I use Hanz Petrov's remote script for the APC40...midi in is recognized but no interaction between software and hardware. Regular APC script still working fine. I have no idea what to do here...tried rebooting everything but no luck. Anybody have a suggestion? Thanks guys.
