Benny Benassi

how can i make that awesome signature Benny Benassi sound with Operator? If you dont know what I'm talking about then listen to Satisfaction by him.

Oh and how does he make that awesome "pumping" effect on his songs? It sounds like he used a compressor on steroids.

I haven't ever heard Benassi, but there are many threads about his sound on KVR ( www.kvraudio.com ) so you can check that out.

I have actually managed to get a good pumping sound out of Filterscape. For bass (which can give you this pumping), you need to use an envelope on both the filter and the output volume. I have actually found that the same envelope on both the filter and the output can give you a good effect.

The envelope settings that I use are fastest attack, somewhere about mid decay (this will give you the whoomph), no sustain, but some release. Then you need to actually in some way (most synths will let you do this), use the inverse of this attack on the filter.

I know that was probably a little complicated, but that is how I got a sound that is very house-y, and I am just going by a blind assumption that is the sound you mean....

Otherwise, you can disregard this post altogether.

I'm kinda upset that there isn't an option in the poll that "Benassi should be thrown into a flaming pool of lava".

Just to help you out, because I think I may have been referencing a different sound...

Here is a link to a KVR thread:

Benassi is using a SH101 with a compressor. 8)

you should be able to create this music with any application. one of the tricks is the automation on effects. the mastering is hot and pumping. but nothing which is really special. not complex sounds, rather simple saw-sounds most of the time.

very annoying video btw, but well... I don't like videos in general.

the "back to basics" sound that's going on right now is sometimes really cool, other times just interesting, and often just (in my opinion) kind of annoying and harsh.

i kind of dug this track when ive heard it in a club, but it quickly got into that last category for me.

kind of OT:

i recently did a version of the stones / devo track "Satisfaction" (cooincidentally) that is available for free in DJ mix format at my site. all editing/sequencing/soundesign/mixing done in Live 4

check it out if ya like

for the benassi sound you just need to fix a huuuuuge side chain compression, and then automate some cheap reverb to go on and off here and there. Thats about it. Oh, and also, use your crappiest samples, that'll do it!

sidechaining is easy in Reason3. maybe the Benassi track is done in Reason. could be done easily with it.

Side chaining is child easy in any software. You dont even need a compressor.
