noob question about monitoring guitar effects

Post by rake » Mon Jun 06, 2011 4:12 am

i'm setting up a Live set for playing out live. i'll be playing guitar along with some recorded tracks. i have some effects on the guitar track, but i can't hear them while playing. i assumed i needed to have monitoring set to "on" and the track should be armed, but it doesn't work. no effects

when i record, i can hear the effects in the monitors - but there are no effects on the track when i play it back. the only way i can hear the effects is if i record the guitar first, then play it back with the effects on. i know this must be a simple thing but nothing is working. how do i play the guitar live with Ableton effects?

To record the effects, you need to route the output of your "effects" track to the input of another audio track, and record on that track.

E.g.,, choose the effects track as the INPUT of the audio track you want to record on.

you went too much, try one of the following:

- set monitor to 'on', and don't arm the track.
- set monitor to 'auto', and arm the track

if you do both, then when the track is not armed, the monitoring is live from the input, and when it's armed, it monitors playback from the track.
monitor='auto' will do what you want.
