books on audio mastering

Post by Mismoplastico » Tue May 03, 2011 12:13 am

can anyone recommend any good books on the subject? "mastering audio; the art and science" seems to have the best reviews. any help or suggestions would be most welcome.

Honestly that's your best bet. Bobby owsinski has a book too that gets good reviews. This might help as well:

The Bob Katz "Mastering Audio" book is great, but quite technical too in many spots. If you already have a solid foundation in audio engineering I recommend it highly. But if you don't know the difference between dB FS and dB SPL, you may want to start elsewhere. The Bobby Owsinski Mastering Engineer's Handbook is cool too, but features more on interviews and the overall process. Though, it has some great pics of vinyl grooves as relates to mastering.

Bob Katz is next on my shopping/reading list once I've got a bit of spare cash for it. I've never fancied myself as much of a mastering engineer but from what I hear it's full of all sorts of useful info whether you're into mastering or not.

Yeah, it's not just about mastering per se, but also about understanding digital audio. The title of the book is quite clever that way :)
