Mixing Help

Post by mid_knight » Fri Jun 10, 2011 1:30 am

Hello fellow live users

I have a very special type of request. I am really interested in getting into mix engineering as well as getting my own productions to sound cleaner. I was wondering if there were any of you out there that would send me stems of some of your tracks so i could try my hand at mixing them. Yes this is a really strange request, and i'm not trying to step on anybody's toes, and especially not trying to steal from anyone. It would be very helpful, as i could get more practice than with mixing my own tracks. If anybody is interested it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a Bunch

Why not just get stems from the 1000+ remix contests that you can find on the net?

Look into mixoff.org - thats all about sharing raw tracks and comparing your mixes with the others.

Stumbled upon it on gearsluts recently.

i've got something that i was having trouble mixing and paid someone else to, but i'm not happy with their mix either. i could send you the stems when i get home (provided i remember). you may do with them what you will.

on a related note, i just picked up a great book on mixing- "Zen and the Art of Mixing" by mixerman. good stuff so far...

1- Go to FocalPress you can find the best books on audio, many with DVDs and audio.

2- A mag like Computer Music will also be very helpful and brings nice loops to play with.

3- On aside note if you are creative with the remix for the contest, they will need good mixing skills too, plus some bring midi files.

4- On the subject of Midi files, there is loads of free one on the internet, load one in ableton and assign a "similar" instrument/VST, it will soon be a mess, but that will be a great mixing exercise.

Hope it is helpful.
