Can I record audio from a midi clip beyond clip length?

Hi,
I am able to send the audio from a midi instrument / clip to a new audio track.
What I want to do is arm the audio track, and jam with effects, modulation on the synth etc for longer than the length of the midi clip (then selecting portions I want to use). Currently recorded audio stops at the length of the clip.
Short of going into the midi and duplicating up to give say 128 bars, is there a way to extend the length I can record for without extending the midi clip?

Ok,
Not sure what was going on before....
...of course today everything is as I expected. Got my audio channel in from the vst midi clip (1bar) armed the audio track and recorded for as long as I wanted....
....pilot error before.
