Since about 3 weeks ago, Live just out of nowhere began taking FOREVER to start up, with the splash stuck on "Initialising Application".
I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything a couple of times now. I've even done a system restore to before the problem began.
Nothing seems to fix the problem.
Does anyone know what actually happens at the "initialising application" stage that could be causing the problem?
I'm using Windows 7 on a Dell Studio 1557 with an i5 processor and 4GB RAM
Edit: It's happening with Live 8.1 and Live 8.2.1
Live is suddenly taking about 5-6 minutes to start up

Does your VST folder have any shortcuts to other folders in it? This can mae Live take very long to start up sometimes.
If not, you can always just delete your preferences file to see if this helps.
I prefer renaming it to something like preferences.cf_
This way Live won't be able to find a valid .CFG file and just make a new one. If this doesn't help you can just delete the new .CFG file and rename the old one back. It's better than simply deleting it.
It's located in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Ableton\Live 8.X.X\Preferences

I'll try deleting the prefs file, thanks. Are there any other files that might affect the startup?dentaku wrote:Does your VST folder have any shortcuts to other folders in it? This can mae Live take very long to start up sometimes.

My VST folder does have a few other folders in the main VST folder, but that's never been a problem before, and even when I had a fresh install of Live that didn't have any VST folder set, it still took forever to load.
Unless it started when I deleted a folder from the VST folder maybe and Live is searching for a broken shorcut or something. Is that plausible?
Surely the preferences file would have already been deleted when I uninstalled 8.1 and did a fresh install of 8.2.1?
Thanks

Fixed.
The log in AppData showed it was taking Ableton like 300 seconds to read some faulty event log file. Deleted it. Sorted.
Thanks for the steer.
