should this work?
should this work?
just bought some active monitor speakers for the first time.
i'm sure this should work but cant understand why its not...
I have a turntable plugged into my dj mixer (urei 1620) and then the master output (left) into my left active monitor and then the master (right) into my right active monitor.
yet i cant get any sound??

Re: should this work?

master channel gain on the mixer turned up?
Re: should this work?
well, you have to have it somewhere or you'll never hear what that needle is playing over speakers. so, unless i'm mistaken you either:Ken Ken wrote:not sure? its just a dj mixer so they dont normally do they?
A. have a separate phantom power unit plugged into the wall that your turntable plugs into and then you have wire from there to your mixer (this is what i have)
B. you have phantom power on the mixer itself
C. have no phantom power on the mixer, no separate phantom power unit and you need to go get one
D. forgot to turn the amps on the monitors on... or the monitor's volume knobs up
Re: should this work?
this doesn't make sense. phantom power is for microphones, not phono preamps.H20nly wrote:

Lol @ H2O are you at the pub already?
Phantom Power = Microphones
Ground = Turntables

now what suggestions do you blokes have for the OP?
and @ Da Hand... man, i wish i was at the pub. Friday is the best day at work, but it can be a long one...
Re: should this work?
agreed!
that urei probably has a phono preamp, but even without a phono preamp, there should be some sound. preamps raise the level a little but mostly used for their eq curve.
not sure why no sound is coming out. it should work if you have it hooked up properly and everything is on. you should have the volume up on 1) the channel the turntable is connected to 2) the master volume channels and 3) the speakers themselves.

Re: should this work?
is there any indication that audio is getting to the mixer?
have you tried connecting the turntable to another mixer channel?

Re: should this work?
Possibly stupid question: Is your turntable plugged into the PHONO inputs or the AUX inputs? Or something else?
