Attempting to pitch shift vocals

Post by patrickbyrd » Sun Jun 12, 2011 6:27 pm

... á la the beginning of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IA4N-2EoGZo
(Dan Deacon ftw!)

How could I accomplish this in Live? I'd like to map the pitch changes to my FCB1010 expression pedals so I can go up and down a major scale, or whatever scale I choose.

He's also got some harmony and analog richness going on in there as well. Of course its all hardware he's using but Live should be able to do something similar, right?

Any takers?

Use the Vocoder effect :) You will need two sound sources. One, the voice. Two, the instrument that determines the pitch/character of the voice. The Vocoder effect in Live 8 allows you to choose where that pitch sound comes from. You can use any sound source for each. Lots of settings/ideas to experiment with :) Detuned Saw is an easy start

Sorry, but I looked at the vocoder and couldn't find where you would route the instrument into the effect....

I was hoping there would be a little sidechain triangle or something..

Ah, spoke too soon. You choose "external" from the dropdown menu. Gotcha. Thanks for the tip!!
