Insert Midi file (not midi track)
Insert Midi file (not midi track)
Hey to anyone who reads this. I have gone through lots of pages over the last weekend and read tons of posts and learned a lot already.
Equip: Laptop with windows 7 6gig ram 320G HD yadda yadda yadda
Akai MPK25
USB cable.......
Ableton live lite version 8.2.2 (I installed the cd I got with the mpk25 and then it took me to this site to upgrade and validate.) And the original version I installed doesnt let you use the instruments. I hope thats normal.
Purpose: I play in a coverband and our drummer used to use a roland sps-d pad. I am the guitarist that can play SOME keys but has NOOOOO idea about midi LOL. I want to be able to use the pads to trigger midi files. I want to be able to use the keyboard as a keyboard but the pad trigging is more important for now.
Where I am.
I have it running and I can use some included instruments like keys and strings and drums.
I have gone through the tutorial on the right hand side. It helped.
But now I go to create>insert midi file and it is blanked out........?????? Will this version not let me do what I need? Is there a chance salesmen sold me this and didnt truly know that? LOL I just need to know what to do since I have downloaded some free midi files and want to see where I go from there. But if I cant insert (import) then what?
Sorry to be long winded but I wanted to give a good idea of where I am at .
Any help is appreciated!!!!

Re: Insert Midi file........ TOTAL newbie here....
Hmm, it seems like maybe you just inserted a MIDI file. Which is just data; it will not actually play any sound, that is until you have an actual MIDI instrument in the track. Here, this video is pretty straightforward...you can drag and drop existing MIDI files or import them using the menu. Hope this helps!

Re: Insert Midi file........ TOTAL newbie here....
Thanks for the reply and the great vid tut. But maybe I worded it wrong. I am trying to insert a midi FILE not a TRACK. I downloaded some songs from a web site and want to import (insert) and assign sounds to the file to be able to use it live. I do know how to insert a midi track just not a file.
Hope that helps cause I still need help LOL

Ah. You have to make sure the file you downloaded has the extension ".mid" at the end. If it is a .mid file, then everything should work. You should ne able to either drag and drop or import the file.
Why don't you include a link to the file here so I can check it out? It may be that the particular file is corrupted or simply doesn't include anything.

Hmmmmm not sure how to add a link or what link I would add.
I will add the link to where I got some files.
http:/www.cool-midi.com/free-midi-11.htm
Again I go to the top and under create I seeeeeeeeeeeee where it says insert midi file but it is grayed out so I cant use it.

Re: Insert Midi file (not midi track)
Hmm, not sure. They seem to open just fine...Did you try dragging the file into a midi track?

Re: Insert Midi file (not midi track)
Do you use the full version or Live lite. yes I have tried to drag. And I had it wrong. It says insert midi clip just greyed out.
OK OK I dragged and dropped it from the desk top and there it is. I hit play and I can hear it with my instruments but I dont know how to get it to a view that I can see all the parts or data of the track.
THANKS for the drag and drop.
