Novation Launchpad - Looper / Drum sequencer in one setup?

Im on the verge of buying a launchpad. Is it possible to have it setup so one or rows act like loop banks (similar to kp3) and the rest of the rows act as step-secquencer buttons for drum sounds (like an electribe or something). If that can all be setup at the same time I would be so stoked.

Seems to have bottom half for drum pads and top for triggering clips

thats pretty close. i guess if that is possible my ideal setup is possible too. the only difference in mine is that the top, instead of triggering clips, is triggering a loop recorder and the bottom, instead of triggering drum samples, is a step sequencer for drums.

you can do that in user two mode... or with the free automap software that comes with the unit.. It takes a little thought, but easily possible. the launchpad is cool like that, cool like that

the launchpad is really good for launching clips. doing anything else with it will take a while to think through. A lot of things are possible if you're alright with writing python, using midi mapping to get results can get messy really quickly. the interaction with max for live is good as well, but again its not immediately obvious how to get things done. So whatever you do will require a fair amount of time to get right. I couldn't handle switching between automap and live control in a live performance, its all 'hold this key down and press this key' - which is too much for me when I am concentrating on playing music.
