Please add buttons to racks

Post by glitchrock-buddha » Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:57 pm

Seriously the lack of buttons is a real sore spot. One of the main reasons why Kore works so much better. In addition to the 8 macros, you need 8 buttons. Using up a dial for a simple on/off switch is no good.

never thought about it, but yes! +1- turning a knob for on/off is a pain!

good point - it is irritating doing it with dials, I just kind of got used to it.

also, I'd like a master volume slider for racks

+1000

This is very important, more important than the launch of a new controller.

Hmmm, I just map the macro knob to a button on my controller. Problem solved.

sure but it would be easier, and it could probably fit in quite easily.

Depends what controller you're using I guess. For me it would be exactly the same process to map a button as it is a knob.

another scenario that irritates me: mapping an EQ3 so that you can sweep LPF and HPF - I end up using 2 x EQ3s because with 1 in order for the LPF to be active you need to turn the other on a little

I requested this ages ago. In fact, I was hoping that Live would get a little more modular, even for those of us who don't dabble with MFL. I've always found the 8 parameter paradigm a very strange limitation. I mean, I love how Live's Instant Mapping works, but it should be up to the user to decide whether to bank up and down or just map everything to one control surface, if you've got enough knobs and buttons. I think the Instant Mapping configuration file should be expandable, so that you could simply add "Parameter 9" and so on. Then, in Live, a rack should start out with the standard eight parameters (which should be definable as "rotary" or "button" through a context menu), but with a "configure" button, like on VSTs, which would let you add parameters at will.

Would love to have buttons too, yes. And I would also love to have the old device XY pad merged into the new macros: A mode that switches the 8 macros into 8 xy pads, and with a click buttons.

Also a good idea to have a separate rack volume, or a dry/wet knob. But this would be a problem with the current APC 40, as it does not have knobs for that.

YES! (also posted this somewhere already, but could not find the thread anymore)

Reasons:
- 8 additional controls
- you dont have to "waste" knobs for switches
- makes GUI more neat, as you do not have to remember, which knobs do switches and wich are real knobs
- can't be that hard to duplicate the 8 macros already there and turn them into switches?
- Live Racks will be better than Propellerhead's Combinator

So DO IT!
