Advice on building first Max patch - for my Monomachine

Post by samtastic » Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:45 am

hi all,
so Im new to Max. But I've got two weeks off uni and I've thought of a device I'd like to build (my first). What's more, I don't think it'd be that complicated!

I want to build a Max MIDI device that will allow me to select parameters (from a pull-down menu) for my Elektron Monomachine, then map these parameters to 8 Macro knobs.

That's it.

All it has to do is output specific MIDI parameters (labeled according to their names in the Monomachine manual), it doesn't even have to be channel-selective (as I'll place it before an External Instrument device, which will be sending MIDI to a specific channel and therefore, to a specific track on the Monomachine).

The reason I'd like to build this is so that I can automate particular parameters on the Monomachine across larger time-frames (ie 16/32 bar sections, either via clips in the Session window, or via the Arrange window), while using the dedicated encoders and sequencer on the Monomachine to tweak parameters in small time-frames (ie 1, 2 and 4 bar sections).

I'm at uni at the moment (finishing off last assignment for the semester), so not with my set-up at home.

But I'll keep people posted on how it goes. And definitely be wanting some advice from more experienced Max users!

Are there any good, basic Max for Live tutorials going around? (like I said, Im not at home at the moment, so can't put them into practice right now anyway, but Im keen to make the seemingly-steep Max learning curve as gentle as possible!).

I started an earlier topic on the Elektron forums last week, in regards to working-out specifically which parameters controlled what on the Monomachine. For anyone interested, that thread is here:

Is there one??

You mean it's already done??

Some others mentioned it. But I looked and couldn't find it anywhere. What's it called?

'monomachine max patch' didn't give me any love

If someone has beaten me to my first Max project, that's ok with me.

I've got another I'd like to undertake anyway : )

but would a Monomachine-controlling device : )

Sam

Thanks for emailing it to me : )

Sorry for the silence on my end!

I've been really busy, working on a live set and finishing off a demo mix (plus school, work... and all of life's other hurdles).

So I havent had a chance to test out the Mnm Max Device yet.

But once I've finished my demo mix, i'll get back into the studio and give it a whirl

cheers : )
