Failed to open the audio device
Hello,
I'm unable to get my soundcard to load in Ableton Live. It keeps giving me this error: "Failed to open the audio device "ASIO US-224 (16 bit)". If I select the 24bit option it gives me the same problem.
I've googled and found no help. Can anyone hazard any guesses as to what might be wrong or make any suggestions on what I could do to remedy this or at least debug it? I haven't the slightest idea where to start. I can play audio, watch movies and do everything else in windows just fine using this card. Only Ableton isn't happy with it.
I should add that Ableton won't even load the native (conexant) audio chip. Strange, no?
Laptop: Lenovo w701 DS
Soundcard: Tascam US-224 ASIO
Ableton Live 8.2.2
Thank you

Re: Failed to open the audio device
Do you have any programs open that are 'hogging' the soundcard? In ASIO mode, I think that most audio interfaces only work with one program at a time (there are exceptions). Specifically, the problem would occur if another program is using it in ASIO mode.

Re: Failed to open the audio device
Thank you for the replies, so quick.
Sorry, I forgot to mention it's windows xp 64.
There are no other programs using the ASIO card. I have a game open but the audio comes out of the laptop speakers, not the tascam.
And yes, xp 64 recognizes and utilizes my tascam just fine (can play mp3's, watch movies, etc). I have the latest drivers and there are no recent changes, it's just never worked on this laptop.

Re: Failed to open the audio device
go into the control panel and change the OS's default sound card to the built in sound card. 2die4 might be right in that something else is using the Tascam.

Re: Failed to open the audio device
Thanks for the tips everyone, much appreciated.
I shut down every program, changed the output in sounds in control panel to my built in sound card, but still nothing, same error.

Re: Failed to open the audio device
Slight update:
I bought a USB hub, uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled, restarted and now Ableton Live recognizes the Tascam!!!
But no sound comes out
Now I get nothing from VLC media player when watching mp3's or movies either. Ableton Live's mixer shows that audio is going out but I hear nothing. Speakers are on, Tascam is on, but no audio.
Any ideas please?
