Still, if you know you could improve the company if you were in a better position and they saw it (only because you took the initiative to show it to them) maybe it'd be better than that. It wouldn't hurt, would it? It doesn't mean you still can't turn them down:) I don't know the reality of it, but I get the impression that being passive about it is a good enough excuse for any employer to trip the fat.
Why are you one of the last to go?
Why did another co-worker ask for your help?
Seriously I hate the industry. The main reason for keeping the job (other than the state of the job market) was it was under the umbrella of a well respected corporation and also because of that they paid better than the average company in the same industry. The new owner is small and can't pay anywhere near what I was making and that's not going to change and also the growth opportunity won't be there. Money isn't the only reason to work at a place but that's pretty much the only reason I stuck around. Take that out of the equation and there's nothing for me.

The ONLY reason the new owner was even considering hiring me back is because my boss was REALLY pushing them on it. I could already tell they are really laid back people who don't like conflict so the main reason they probably told him they would consider it is so he'd STFU about it. It will be a lot easier for me, my boss, and the new owners when they don't have to deal with my presence on a daily basis. Out of sight, out of mind.

Cool. I'm still a sucker for that idealist "you've seen too many happy endings in tv and movies" voice in my head sometimes and it's easier to picture it when you don't know the reality of it or the whole story. Especially when it's because it isn't 'you' that it's happening to.

It works sometimes, though.

Well I'm really seeing the layoff as an opportunity to find something I really enjoy doing or at the very least work for a company that is doing something I'm excited about. So it's not all bad news. Plus studies have shown that people are less depressed being unemployed than stuck in a job they hate. I'm going to give the "less depressed" option a go.

As far as the rent increase our complex is owned by a property management company. They're as faceless to me as I am to them. It might not go anywhere but I think I should at least try to see if they won't increase the rent the absolute legal maximum if they know my situation. Hell, if they knocked $40 off I'd be happy and I don't think that's too much to ask.

beats me wrote: a well respected corporation
generally speaking what makes them "well respected" is... cutting costs and increasing profits... which equals better Wall St. numbers. then they brag about it in (expensive) commercials or (much to their preference) someone else boasts for them in magazines and the business news sections of print, the web and tickers on the bottom of TV screens.

the thing is, the "cutting costs" part is the bottom line. nothing more. there is no face. there is no love. there is no compassion. paper clip, shipping costs, company jet, human beings, software... it's all on an itemized report that gets transferred to a spreadsheet.

remember that word 'corporation' when you're out there looking for a new job. it's almost synonymous with decent benefits packages and... layoffs.

on the other hand when the head of the company knows your name or at the very least knows your face... when you work in a place where when the H.R. Manager is being a douche you can go all the way to the top without ever leaving the building... or at least without leaving the county.. then you know you're either not working in a corporation or you're fucking working at the corporate office. you have to use them like they use you. when you forget and get all comfy... a reminder will follow. be weary of the corporation... lest you find history repeating itself.

let me guess... your apartment building is owned by a group that owns lots of apartment buildings in the area. you, or one of your neighbors that have been there a long time, remember the previous owner before he died or was forced to sell for some reason... but now it's under a group who have an off site office that oversees the onsite management... and lots of buildings all over.

you're double whammied in the American dream turned violent shake.

my PC is about 20 feet from my CEO's office, my landlord is a sweet 93 year old lady who forces candy on my child and tells us both about how things have changed when we go to her house to hand her the rent check. i planned it this way... i got laid off twice, the last time thanks to Worldcomm, MCI, and finally Verizon... the first time it was MSN Internet Access (dial up help desk :P )... both times jobs were moved or eliminated. i went to work, i got good quality scores, i trained people, i was friendly, on time, dedicated... it didn't matter... it doesn't matter when your boss gets laid off too... or... your boss is thanking his/her "lucky" stars that he/she isn't getting laid off too.

you can't reason with math. you can reason with people. if you can see the math, but not the people then you're rolling the layoff dice every day.

you obviously had become fairly comfy, content and distracted. you might have seen this coming, but you were distracted, awestruck even, by the way your playlist syncs between 3 devices, the Netflix interface, and sheer volume of apps that need organizing, never mind the GUI. the storm was forming but you were looking down or straight ahead and not to the sky. you should blame Steve for this.

i do. :|

damn you Steve, damn you.

Friends, associates, distinguished colleges, NIGGAZ (So Solid Poo),

I got the last minute job offer from the new owner. Pay will be less annually (no bonuses, or commissions), but my base pay will be slightly more. I think I’ll cave and take it. :x

HERE’S THE KICKER: I’m by no means a big pot smoker but I smoked some pot 2 weeks ago (to celebrate/lament no job offer) and maybe smoked some about a month before that. I have to go take a drug test tomorrow morning. :x

I’ve gotten different advice from hardcore synthetic piss that heats up to body temperature, which scares the hell out of me because I think I’ll get all Pink Panther with it and fumble it up, to system cleanser you get from GNC and I have done that before and it worked.

This truly is my month of torture. :x

seriously... how much did you smoke?.. if we're talking a couple of rips i wouldn't worry... if you were chiefin all night... well then sure go get some cleanser type stuff, but you said you hardly ever smoke... that shit stores up in fatty cells over time... not overnight. i'm not saying you don't have any in your system. i'm saying drink water till you're sick of it...

dilute holmes.

as long as your percentage is under the threshold you're all set.

water

water

more water

Diluting has been had years ago.
They know you tried to detox by drinking lots of water because the results are cloudy.

I unknowingly had to take a test the day after I smoked (and I'm not a daily smoker anymore), tried to find what worked last time but couldn't find it; continued researching and found a nearby headshop that had it. It's expensive but it works. Turn your piss flourescent and your poo blue (or green, ymmv) I can't remember the name but it's short and generic, like RX. You should be able to find it pretty easily if you have any kind of googling skill. Cost me about 75$

True but I still want to vomit.

"God's plan" is stuck in tilt right now.

Yes, and I don't care. The computer is getting super wiped (3 hour process)tomorrow and the new owner isn't getting the old computer.

Um, wouldn't pissing blue or green clue them in??

Was the bottle purple by any chance?

No, the Poo changes colors, it's the piss looks like diluted anti-freeze.
But you flush that part out by the time you take the test.
What you usually do is down the drink itself for about an hour, then drink a couple glasses of water to dilute that. Also part of it's magic is that it makes the piss non-clear.
The first bottle I tried was a pinkish/purple, and that's the brand I was looking for but couldn't find it (a friend gave it to me; he said he ordered it from another country. But I couldn't find that so I came across the RX stuff. It's mostly a white bottle but they'll have a red or green or blue stripe depending on what the drink is for. Mine was Red.

You know what, though, if it was 2 weeks ago and not much than I don't think you need to go that far.
Usually virgin/cattle/sheep sacrifices can take care of that.
