Scrubbing individual clips..

Post by Mark-K. » Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:46 am

Hello,

recently i want to DJ my own tracks in Live. They are made in another sequencer and are all at the same bpm. I bounced them out streight on the first kick.
Then i load them into live and want to DJ them. Ok so far...but i never get them exactly overlaying...like beatmatching...i hit the play button on the new track and it doesn`t fit perfectly.

Usually i would spin the wheel on the cd player to make them fit perfectly.
I warped the tracks, have set them to complex pro and set the pre counter to "none". I tried different settings with the pre counter but nothing helps.

I just need to push the new track a little bit to make them fit, like scrubbing...but there is only a global button in live.

Is there a way to give individual clips a little push or slow down?

Hope i made that clear enough..

thx

Hi Mark,

If 2 tracks have been time warped correctly, and the start markers are appropriately placed, then they should play back in sync and you shouldn't have the need to push either track on to get it in time.

Find the first kick drum on each track, zoom right in on it, create a warp marker right at the start of the kick's waveform. Straight away, right click this new warp marker, select 'set bar 1.1.1' - this is essentially the Live equivalent of setting a cue point on a CDJ. This step ensures the start point of each track is correct

Right click it again, and select 'warp from here' (if you're on Live 8 this should sort you out 99% of the time). You might need to tidy up the timing towards the end with a further marker, depend on how Live has performed. This will keep the tracks lined up and in sync.

There is a way to jog a track on by the value of the Global Quantisation, but if you follow this method, you won't need it.

Hope this helps,

Tom.

Hello,

actualy i did that..i even bounced the tracks out at the first kick midi region since they are my own ones i know 100% that they are at the first kick. Warped them but when i do hit my pad on my controller to start the new track it sometimes but not always fits. I have set the gobal quantisation to none in order to hit them manualy and i would just need to give them a little spin .. :D

I will investigate further but how does this method work you mentioned?

cheers

Ah, yes if global quantisation is off, then it's really difficult to get stuff in time straight off. I'd have global quantisation set to 1 bar - stuff will sync up nicely then. If you do want to use your method, there are nudge buttons at the bottom of the Clip box in the Clip view which usually nudge the Clip forward or back by a value of the Global Quantisation (I'm not sure what will happen with this set to off) - give it a go though!

Let me know how you get on,

Tom.

I have spoken word and other ad-lib clips that i'd love to be able to launch and scrub in session view using a midi controller. How do I do this without having to Warp (and hence destroy) these clips?
Thanks,
Jiver
