Launching scenes with the Akai MPK49

Post by Griff » Thu Jul 07, 2011 2:36 am

Is it possible to launch scenes in Ableton by using the MPK49.
I have a APC but want to start using my MPK and don't want to cart both bits of gear around.

yes....i don't own the mpk49....but i believe all of those buttons under the faders are midi mappable....while the mpk is plugged into the computer go into your preferences in live...then go to "midi sync" ....under the section where it says "midi ports" you should see an in and an out for the mpk.....turn the remotes "on"....what this does is allow you to midi map the switches and faders etc. on your controller....it basically overrides the mapping that you choose to change. from there you just click "midi" in the upper right hand corner of live's screen. everything that is mappable will turn blue or purple....click on scene launch 1...then press s1 on the mpk....that will map it....do that for all of the rest....and you should be good to go.

Thanks. I will check it out.
It's a great bit of kit, but not as flexible for my live shows as the APC40.

yeah i understand that thing is pretty big....its interesting....i have the apc40c too....but i feel if i had a mpk or a mpd32 it might be more flexible as an instrument than the apc. observe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31AFfyPXUKQ

Anything that sends CC or note data can conceivably be mapped to the scene launch button.

There still might be issues (maybe your button sends a note on both press and release, so things double-trigger, for example) but the basic idea is there. Happy mapping :)
